Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, hath found according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not toward God. For what saith the scripture? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness." — Romans 4:1-3 (ASV)
What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
He stands as the great Father of believers, and this is the charter given to him, and given to all believers in him. Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness.
