Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara; for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me." — Ruth 1:20 (ASV)
And she said to them, Call me not Naomi,–
"Call me not pleasant."
Call me Mara:
That is, "bitter."
For the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.
It was a pity for Naomi to say that; yet I fear that many of us have done the same. We have not borne such sweet testimony to the Lord as we might have done, but have sorrowfully moaned, as this poor woman did.
