Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"Faithful is the saying, and concerning these things I desire that thou affirm confidently, to the end that they who have believed God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men: but shun foolish questionings, and genealogies, and strifes, and fightings about law; for they are unprofitable and vain." — Titus 3:8-9 (ASV)
This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, so that those who have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to people. But avoid foolish questions,
There are always plenty of thorns around, and there are certain professing Christians who spend half their lives fighting about nothing at all.
There is no more to their contention than the difference between Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Yet, they will divide a church over it and go through the world as if they have discovered a great secret.
In reality, this supposed secret is of no consequence whatsoever. But having made their 'discovery,' they judge everyone by their new-found fad and thereby spread a spirit that is contrary to the Spirit of Christ.
