SCRIPTURE

"Because of the tender mercy of our God, Whereby the dayspring from on high shall visit us," — Luke 1:78 (ASV)

Theophylact of Ohrid: Because God has forgiven our sins not because of our works, but through His mercy, it is therefore fittingly added, Through the tender mercy of our God.

St. John Chrysostom: We did not find this mercy by our own seeking; instead, God has appeared to us from on high, as the text continues: Through which (that is, by His tender mercy) the day-spring from on high (that is, Christ) has visited us, taking upon Himself our flesh.

Greek Expositors: Remaining on high yet present on the earth, He suffers neither division nor limitation—a reality that our understanding cannot grasp, nor can any power of words express.
