Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary 1 Corinthians 7:17

"Only, as the Lord hath distributed to each man, as God hath called each, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all the churches." — 1 Corinthians 7:17 (ASV)

Paul now expands his thought of the Christian’s call to other areas besides that of marital status. Christians should live for the Lord wherever they are. This, Paul says, is the principle that he orders to be followed in all the churches (cf. Ephesians 5:6–21:9; Colossians 3:4–18:1)—a principle that transcends all boundaries.
