Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary 1 Corinthians 9:19

"For though I was free from all [men,] I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more." — 1 Corinthians 9:19 (ASV)

Going beyond his right to financial support, the apostle now discusses other areas of life in which he has forfeited his right to freedom in order to win more to Christ. His statement is a strong one: “I am free from all men, but I have enslaved myself to all.”
