"For this is acceptable, if for conscience toward God a man endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully." — 1 Peter 2:19 (ASV)
Peter motivates this latter clause. “For it,” he writes, “is commendable”—i.e., a “grace” (GK 5921). It is an attractive quality in the sight of God when because of conscience (or perhaps “consciousness” of God) a Christian slave puts up with pain as he suffers unjustly.
