1 Peter 2:22

SCRIPTURE

"who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:" — 1 Peter 2:22 (ASV)

The preeminent OT passage on the suffering of the Messiah is Isaiah’s fourth Servant Song (Isaiah 52:13–53:12). Peter quotes Isa 53:9 to stress the submission of the innocent Sufferer. Other echoes of Isa 53 sound in the next verses: 53:12 in v.24a; 53:5 in v.24b; 53:6 in v.25. Throughout his earthly ministry, Jesus was reviled (cf. Matthew 11:19; 26:67; 27:30, 39–44; Mark 3:22). In all these situations, he was ever the patient sufferer who was able to control his tongue. He committed his case to the heavenly Judge whom he trusted to give a just judgment.
