"To him [be] the dominion for ever and ever. Amen." — 1 Peter 5:11 (ASV)

Peter now contrasts satanic opposition to God’s purpose and enablement. For Christians, God has as his gracious purpose bringing his children himself to share in his glory (cf. Psalms 73:23–24; Jn 17:22, 24; Romans 8:30). “Called” (GK 2813) in the Pauline and Petrine writings stresses God’s sovereign working. The eternal glory contrasts with the temporal trials Christians suffer. “Restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast” translates four verbs that emphatically promise divine aid.

With a brief doxology, Peter closes the main part of his letter by ascribing power to Christ. This ascription of a doxology to Jesus reveals his dignity and deity.
