"Therefore he that rejecteth, rejecteth not man, but God, who giveth his Holy Spirit unto you." — 1 Thessalonians 4:8 (ASV)
A final reason for compliance with the standards set forth in vv.4–5 is that they are God-given. Therefore rejection of them means rejecting not a human being, but God, “who gives [us] his Holy Spirit”; the Spirit lives in us and is inseparable from the kind of holy living demanded in this paragraph (cf. Romans 8:1– 17).
