Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary 2 Corinthians 8:18

"And we have sent together with him the brother whose praise in the gospel [is spread] through all the churches;" — 2 Corinthians 8:18 (ASV)

The unidentified Christian brother whom Paul was sending with Titus had a double qualification. He was well known and highly praised in all the (Macedonian?) churches “for his service to the gospel” (probably a good administrator, maybe also an evangelist or teacher). Also, he had been selected and commissioned by an unspecified number of churches to travel with Paul on behalf of the collection. Paul adds a phrase to explain why he personally was supervising the administration of the collection. He sought to promote not his own glory but the Lord’s and to prove his “eagerness to help” (cf. Galatians 2:10).
