Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary
"Seeing that these things are thus all to be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in [all] holy living and godliness," — 2 Peter 3:11 (ASV)
Peter now makes the impending disintegration of the universe the ground for a personal challenge to his readers. In view of what is in store for the world, Peter asks his readers, “What kind of people ought you to be?” Since the day of the Lord will soon come to punish the wicked and reward the righteous, believers should live “holy and godly lives.” Holiness entails separation from evil and dedication to God; godliness relates to piety and worship.
