2 Peter 3:14

SCRIPTURE

"Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for these things, give diligence that ye may be found in peace, without spot and blameless in his sight." — 2 Peter 3:14 (ASV)

Since there will be perfect righteousness in the new heaven and new earth and since all will appear before Christ, Christians must now be righteous in their lives. “Make every effort” (GK 5079) is a favorite word of Peter’s (cf. 1:10, 15; also the related noun in 1:5). Christians are to make intense efforts to be morally pure—“spotless” (GK 834) and “blameless” (GK 318) like Christ. These two words occur in reverse order in 1 Peter 1:19, where they refer to Jesus. In 2 Peter 2:13 Peter has called the false teachers “blots and blemishes” (the opposite of these two words). Believers should also aim to live so as to be found having the “peace” that results from their efforts to please the Lord. In Rev 2:16, the risen Christ warns the church to repent or he will “fight against them with the sword of his mouth.” Those who are “found at peace with him” have put out of their lives the things he hates.
