2 Timothy 1:10

SCRIPTURE

"but hath now been manifested by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel," — 2 Timothy 1:10 (ASV)

This hidden grace has now been “revealed” (GK 5746) to the human race “through the appearing [GK 2211] of our Savior, Jesus Christ.” The word “appearing” normally refers to the second coming of Christ (see comments on 2 Thessalonians 2:8; 1 Timothy 6:14; cf. also 2 Timothy 4:1, 8; Titus 2:13), but here it obviously refers to his first coming. At his first coming Christ “destroyed death” through his own death on the cross (cf. Hebrews 2:14). The preaching of the cross offers all people life and immortality; this is the good news Christ came to bring.
