Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary
"For which cause I suffer also these things: yet I am not ashamed; for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed unto him against that day." — 2 Timothy 1:12 (ASV)
Paul’s appointment as a preacher of the Gospel had cost him much in “suffering” and persecution. But he was not ashamed, because he knew the Person in whom he believed, and he was persuaded that God was able to guard until the day of the Lord what was “entrusted to him” (see comments on 1 Timothy 6:20). That is, God would guard Paul’s teaching, his apostolic work, his converts, and his life, even if there should be death.
