Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary 2 Timothy 1:13

"Hold the pattern of sound words which thou hast heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus." — 2 Timothy 1:13 (ASV)

What Timothy has heard from Paul he is to keep as the “pattern [GK 5721; cf. 1 Timothy 1:16] of sound teaching.” But this was to be done “with faith and love in Christ Jesus.” The only way to keep doctrine is to both live and proclaim it with faith and love.
