Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary 2 Timothy 1:14

"That good thing which was committed unto [thee] guard through the Holy Spirit which dwelleth in us." — 2 Timothy 1:14 (ASV)

Similar to what Paul has done (v.12), Timothy is to “guard the good deposit that was entrusted to” him. Paul had entrusted the Gospel to Timothy to preach and the doctrine to preserve. This goal could not be accomplished in one’s own human strength, but only “with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.”
