2 Timothy 4:18

SCRIPTURE

"The Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will save me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom [be] the glory forever and ever. Amen." — 2 Timothy 4:18 (ASV)

“Rescue” and “delivered” (v.17) translate the same verb (GK 4861; cf. also Mt 6:13, where it is used in the Lord’s Prayer). Paul trusts that the Lord will bring him safely through anything that comes his way. “His heavenly kingdom” is probably identical to the phrase “the kingdom of heaven,” found thirty-two times in Matthew, though the reference here is to the future kingdom in the eternal realm. Paul is fond of breaking out into spontaneous praise now and then in his letters. One of his many doxologies occurs here: “To him [the Lord, i.e., Christ] be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
