Colossians 3:23

SCRIPTURE

"whatsoever ye do, work heartily, as unto the Lord, and not unto men;" — Colossians 3:23 (ASV)

Slaves must see their service as a service rendered not to human beings but to the Lord. This would transform the most menial responsibilities and give dignity to all of their work. They would thereby be reminded of the reward that would be theirs for serving faithfully in Christ’s name. On “inheritance,” see comment on 1:12.
