"proving what is well-pleasing unto the Lord;" — Ephesians 5:10 (ASV)

The exhortation in v.8 is further supplemented by an instruction to “find out what pleases the Lord” (cf. v.17). “To find out” (GK 1507) has to do with the testing of metals and so can mean to discover by examination, to verify, or to approve. Those who live as “children of light” (v.8) will be continually trying to ascertain what the will of God is in every situation so that all they do may satisfy him.
