Galatians 5:26

SCRIPTURE

"Let us not become vainglorious, provoking one another, envying one another." — Galatians 5:26 (ASV)

It is hard to tell whether this verse belongs with the preceding section or with what follows. Certainly, it is the first of a number of specific actions that should characterize those who are being led by the Spirit. On the other hand, it is also a return to the theme of v.15 and, therefore, a summation. This verse probably refers to a situation Paul knew to be existing in Galatia and hence is a direct attempt to discourage pride and dampen party spirit. Walking by the Spirit is the ultimate solution to such evils.
