Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary
"for we are become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm unto the end:" — Hebrews 3:14 (ASV)
True believers “share in Christ” (cf. 1:9). The author here is stressing the privilege we have in being Christians. He suggests the two sides of a paradox appear in the phrases, “we have come” and “if we hold firmly.” What God has done God has done. But it is important that believers hold firmly to what God has given them (cf. v.6). When the addressees first became believers, they had “confidence” (GK 5712); i.e., they had no doubts then, nor should they have any now. “Till the end” may point to the end of the age or the end of the believer’s life.
