"Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience." — Hebrews 4:11 (ASV)
It is possible that this verse should be attached to the preceding paragraph, but it seems preferable to see it as introducing an exhortation based on the penetrating power of the Word of God. The writer includes himself with his readers in urging a quick and serious effort to enter the rest “so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.” Paul refers to the same generation to hammer home a similar lesson, and he regards the wilderness happenings as types (1 Corinthians 10:1–12). These earlier people had perished. Let the readers beware!
