Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary Hebrews 5:13

"For every one that partaketh of milk is without experience of the word of righteousness; for he is a babe." — Hebrews 5:13 (ASV)

The author now explains his reference to milk and solid food. “Anyone” is inclusive; in other words, the author is saying, “This is the way it is.” Christians occupied with elementary truths are spiritually still infants and must be treated as such. They are without experience in “the teaching about righteousness.” It is uncertain what “righteousness” (GK 1466) means, for it may be taken in more ways than one. Most likely it means the right conduct God expects believers to follow, but which the readers of this letter have not been following.
