Hebrews 7:18

SCRIPTURE

"For there is a disannulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness" — Hebrews 7:18 (ASV)

“Regulation” refers, as in v.16, to the whole law. The Levitical system in its entirety is “set aside” and annulled by Christ’s coming and work. At the same time, there is a connection (implied by the word “former”). The Levitical system was not simply earlier in time; it also prepared the way for the coming of Christ. But it had to give way because it was “weak and useless.” It could not give people strength to meet all the needs of life. It could not bring salvation.
