Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary John 1:16

"For of his fulness we all received, and grace for grace." — John 1:16 (ASV)

Verse 15 has already been discussed as part of the section concerning John the Baptist. Verse 16 connects directly with v.14; it says that the Son was full of the grace and truth of the Father. The writer reminds his readers that they have already experienced that grace in increasing measure. When one supply of grace is exhausted, another is available.
