Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary John 1:40

"One of the two that heard John [speak], and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter`s brother." — John 1:40 (ASV)

Of the two disciples who heard John, only Andrew is named; the other one may well have been John (the author) himself. Throughout the gospel he had an interest in Simon Peter. On this occasion he wanted to explain the origin of Simon’s association with Jesus.
