Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary John 12:46

"I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me may not abide in the darkness." — John 12:46 (ASV)

Jesus equated belief in him with belief in God (cf. John 14:1). The Father and the Son are inseparable; though they are two personalities, they work as one being. Jesus spoke of the Father as the one who had sent him, and he claimed to be the light that illumines the darkness of those who are without God.
