Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary
"He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him." — John 14:21 (ASV)
Jesus reiterated the statement of v.15 because of its importance. Love is the basis of our relationship with God. His love has been manifested in the gift of Jesus , and our love for him is manifested in obedience . Those who obey his commands and show their love for him will reap great benefits. The Father will love the obedient disciples, Jesus himself will love them, and Jesus will make himself known to them.
