"Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?" — John 14:22 (ASV)
The last question in this impromptu dialogue was posed by Judas (not Iscariot). Nothing is known of him beyond his name (cf. Lk 6:16; Acts 1:13), unless he can be identified with Thaddaeus (Matthew 10:3; Mark 3:18). Judas could not understand how Jesus would appear to the disciples without being at the same time subject to public scrutiny. Either Jesus would be visible or he would not; for Judas there was no possibility of both.
