Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary John 2:12

"After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and [his] brethren, and his disciples; and there they abode not many days." — John 2:12 (ASV)

This verse covers an unspecified period of time. Since the Synoptic Gospels seem to imply that he had an early ministry in Galilee, it may fit at this point. The allusion to Jesus’ brothers probably refers to younger children of Joseph and Mary, born after Jesus (Mark 6:3).
