"But he that was healed knew not who it was; for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in the place." — John 5:13 (ASV)
John indicates that on at least four occasions Jesus quietly withdrew from a scene of controversy. Each of these occurred after an argument with the Jews over his claims (10:39; 12:36). All these reinforce the concept of the fourth gospel that Jesus was immune to danger until the hour of his passion arrived (7:30; 8:20).
