John 6:14

SCRIPTURE

"When therefore the people saw the sign which he did, they said, This is of a truth the prophet that cometh into the world." — John 6:14 (ASV)

The miracle excited the wonder of the people and compelled them to recognize that Jesus was an unusual person. The allusion to “the Prophet” is probably a reflection of the promised prophet of Dt 18:15 . Since Moses had provided food and water in the desert (Exodus 16:11–36; Exodus 17:1–6; Numbers 11:1–33; Numbers 20:2–11), the people likely expected that the Prophet like Moses would do likewise.
