"Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he that is from God, he hath seen the Father." — John 6:46 (ASV)

Jesus’ statement here is the foundation for the assertion in 1:18. Jesus claimed authoritative knowledge of God such as a son can claim concerning his own father.
