"And we have believed and know that thou art the Holy One of God." — John 6:69 (ASV)
The emphatic use of the first personal plural pronoun implies a contrast between the Twelve and those who had deserted Jesus: “We believe” (italics mine). The Greek tense used here indicates that Peter is affirming that they have reached a final, firm conviction that Jesus is indeed “the Holy One [GK 41] of God.” This term for Jesus closely resembles the expression “the Holy One of Israel” (43:3; 47:4; et al.).
