"Now he spake of Judas [the son] of Simon Iscariot, for he it was that should betray him, [being] one of the twelve." — John 6:71 (ASV)
This verse reads like a footnote. Although the Gospels never indulge in lengthy denunciation of Judas, almost invariably his name is followed by the phrase “who betrayed him [Jesus]” (Mark 3:19). On “Iscariot,” see comment on Mk 3:16–19.
