Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary John 8:42

"Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I came forth and am come from God; for neither have I come of myself, but he sent me." — John 8:42 (ASV)

Jesus gave another evidence of the Jews’ hypocrisy. If they truly loved God, they would evidence that love by showing love to his Son. Love for God is a family affair; it involves loving all whom the Father has sent, especially the Son, his most beloved representative.
