Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary John 8:47

"He that is of God heareth the words of God: for this cause ye hear [them] not, because ye are not of God." — John 8:47 (ASV)

Jesus closed the argument by repeating that the Jews refused to hear him because they did not belong to God. Their bitterness toward him and their obtuseness toward his teaching contradicted their spiritual claims.
