Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary Luke 1:67

"And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying," — Luke 1:67 (ASV)

Zechariah the priest now prophesies. As the Holy Spirit had filled Elizabeth (v.41), he now fills Zechariah. His previous doubt and his discipline through loss of speech did not mean the end of his spiritual ministry. Likewise, when a believer today has submitted to God’s discipline, he or she may go on in Christ’s service.
