"and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you." — Luke 10:9 (ASV)

It is not clear whether the messengers feared being offered food prohibited to Jews. These words may have been preserved because of their appropriateness to later situations (cf. Acts 10:9–16; 1 Corinthians 10:27).
