Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary
"For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: but your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things." — Luke 12:30 (ASV)
Jesus now contrasts the pagan Gentiles with believers with regard to their relation to material possessions (cf. Matthew 5:47; 6:7, 32). Pagans do not have the same relationship believers have with a loving, caring, providing heavenly Father. To know that he knows their needs is sufficient assurance for all believers. Secure in that knowledge, his disciples can turn all their attention to the kingdom Jesus commands them to seek.
