"And he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets shall be accomplished unto the Son of man." — Luke 18:31 (ASV)

Luke has already preserved various sayings that predict or foreshadow Jesus’ death (5:35; 9:22, 44; 12:50; 13:32; 17:25). Once again Luke picks up words that stress the fulfillment of prophecy (cf. 2:25–38; 22:37; 24:27, 44).
