"And there was also a superscription over him, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS." — Luke 23:38 (ASV)

Luke’s record of the superscription over the cross shows the issue as Pilate, Jesus’ Roman judge, saw it. The word “this” is at the end of the sentence, conveying the emphatic idea: “The King of the Jews, this one!”
