Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary Luke 3:18

"With many other exhortations therefore preached he good tidings unto the people;" — Luke 3:18 (ASV)

That John not only “exhorted” the people but “preached the good news” (GK 2294) shows that grace accompanied the warning to flee from judgment. It is noteworthy that Luke uses the word “people” (GK 3295) here, a term usually reserved for a potentially responsive group. They apparently stayed on to hear more of John’s message and heard the further proclamation of “good news.”
