Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary
"And that in the good ground, these are such as in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it fast, and bring forth fruit with patience." — Luke 8:15 (ASV)
Luke stresses the character of the individual by describing that person as “noble and good” (a Christian adaptation of an ancient Greek phrase). The word “heart” (GK 2840) means the spiritual, intellectual, and volitional center of a person’s being, i.e., the whole person. This person is marked by singleness of purpose and is the kind of person who does persevere until an abundant crop is produced.
