Luke 8:22

SCRIPTURE

"Now it came to pass on one of those days, that he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples; and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake: and they launched forth." — Luke 8:22 (ASV)

Jesus’ words “Let us go over to the other side of the lake” (v.22) should have assured the disciples that they would indeed complete their trip across the water. Luke mentions the fury of the wind three times (vv.23, 24, 25; see comment on Mk 4:37). Luke mentions earlier in the narrative than do Matthew and Mark that Jesus was asleep. This placement heightens the contrast between the turmoil of the storm and Jesus’ peaceful rest.
