Expositor's Bible Commentary Commentary Mark 10:22

"But his countenance fell at the saying, and he went away sorrowful: for he was one that had great possessions." — Mark 10:22 (ASV)

Mark describes the reactions of the man in vivid detail. His face fell. To obey Jesus was too great a risk for him to take, so the security of wealth kept him out of the kingdom of God.
