Mark 10:32

SCRIPTURE

"And they were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going before them: and they were amazed; and they that followed were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were to happen unto him," — Mark 10:32 (ASV)

Jesus resumed his journey to Jerusalem, taking the lead (cf. Lk 9:51). Jerusalem is mentioned for the first time as his destination. The disciples were probably astonished because of the determination with which Jesus proceeded to his goal (cf. Isaiah 50:7). “Those who followed” were probably pilgrims on their way to the feast at Jerusalem. Jesus, as he so often does in Mark’s gospel, separated the Twelve from the crowd for renewed instruction about his coming passion.
