"And they offered him wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not." — Mark 15:23 (ASV)

Someone offered Jesus wine mixed with myrrh when he arrived at the place of execution. It must have been needed to deaden the pain (see comment on Mt 27:33–34 for another explanation). Jesus refused the drink, choosing rather to experience the terrible sufferings of the Crucifixion with his senses intact.
