"And Mary Magdalene and Mary the [mother] of Joses beheld where he was laid." — Mark 15:47 (ASV)

The two Marys mention in v.40 as being witnesses of the Crucifixion were also present at Jesus’ burial. Mark mentions this in anticipation of 16:1; the two women could identify the tomb on Sunday morning because they had been present at the burial.
